The UN oath of service:
"I solemnly swear to exercise in all loyalty, discretion and conscience
the functions entrusted to me as an international civil servant. of the United Nations,
to discharge these functions and regulate my conduct with the interest of the United Nations only in view, and
not seek or accept instructions in regard to the performance of my duties
from any Government or other authority external to the Organization."

In my view, there is not a single person on Earth who has the qualities required of a Secretary General of the United Nations, There are schools for everything on this planet except for world servants and heads of states. Yet, the UN must become the most noble world association of virtuous men and women ever seen on this planet.

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the UN, 700 staff members donated over $100,000.00 for help to the needy countries.

We humans should eliminate from our lives and actions on planet Earth many stupidities and wrongnesses, many of them inherited from a dead or dying past.

On the other hand we should welcome, support and expand new life actions which preserve, save and even make of our planet Earth a paradise, the most unique, advanced body of evolution in our solar system and perhaps in the universe.

I recommend that two new world agencies be created to deal with the preceeding.

Communism and capitalism both want the happiness of their people. Like the religions, they say: follow me and the whole world will be happy. But, as with the religions, the result is war and untold waste and unhappiness. Working together in the United Nations in devising a new world vision and order is the only way.

The UN budget, considered excessive by the western countries, could be easily reduced if there were not the high costs of cities like New York, Geneva and Paris. Someone should calculate the savings which could be made by transferring some world agencies to low-cost countries,

I don't have the words to express how much I appreciate your regular "Good Morning World" and Robert's other works and the example of his life. Thank you.

I have learned that there was a United Nations Colloquium on Thomas Paine in 1987 and you were a major participant. Do you have a transcript of that meeting or can you tell me where I can find one?

If proceedings of the presentations of all the speakers have been published, I can't find those proceedings. One of our members has some audiotapes, though, and if no publication can be found, I would be willing to transcribe the tapes. I'd like to exhaust all possibilities before going through that process, though.

Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

I am with a fairly new organization, Thomas Paine Friends, and we are wanting to plan a celebration for Paine's 200th anniversary in 2009. My friends tell me that your event was one of the best tributes ever done. Any help you could provide would be greatly welcomed.

We must achieve peace everywhere, from local peace to world peace and switch our attention and efforts on totally new problems and challenges such as overpopulation, the environment, The air, water, climatic changes, etc. There should be no room left whatsoever for wars, conflicts and violence. They are outmoded, things of the past. Our further evolution and progress require it.

-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 5
In 1970, during the twenty-fifth anniversary of the UN, the Republican administration of the US wanted to reduce its contribution to the UN budget from 33 percent to 25 percent. SecretaryGeneral U Thant proposed to Ambassador George Bush that the US contribution be reduced to 15%, but the US refused, arguing that it would lose too much influence in the UN.
An added reason was probably also that with such a low percentage the US would lose the opportunity to complain and to exercise pressure on political issues by refusing to pay. The latter is a beloved technique of the big powers, an additional veto.

Dear God,
Please help me fulfill my dream: that each year in September on International Day of Peace, when the UN General Assembly opens with a minute of prayer or meditation, all peoples of the Earth will pray with their delegates for the advent of peace, justice and happiness on our beautiful planet.

All the temples to God would ring their bells, their gongs, their cymbals, their chofars and sing the world song “Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let it Begin with Me.”

It would be good to publish statistics on what national health departments spend and what the World Health Organization spends, and to do the same for all UN agencies and world programs. The results would be staggering. They would reveal how little is being done for the planet and for humanity, and how much for its subdivisions and subordinate entities. Politicians should have sleepless nights. No wonder that the world is in such a mess. We are the most distorted and misguided budgeted planet in the universe.

I Love Happiness

We were signing Most of All They Taught ME Happiness books in the new RAIN Cybernet Cafe in Solvang CA yesterday afternoon when two ladies came in looking for the coffee shop next door and I said, "since you are here, what do you want to learn about computers?" Catherine, the daughter started talking to Sylvia and Timothy Tyndall and I took her 94 year old mother to meet Robert Muller and mentioned he was in the United Nations.

Immediately she replied, "I just finished a book on Happiness by a former United Nations author, I love happiness."

"Was it Most of All They Taught ME Happiness and if so come meet the author" ..She got so excited, she almost dropped her cane and at 94 one must be a little cautious, but she just couldn't believe it, couldn't stop her excitement and practically ran to Robert...

She had read a copy of this book from 1978 and reads it all the time and when I asked her why she replied "I believe in Happiness"..Robert and she hugged and laughed and held hands for 5 minutes while looking at both the new edition of Happiness and the photographs in Prophet, the Hatmakers Son, his biography by Douglas Gillies.

We will soon be visiting Laura in her home as her copy is one of the rare unsigned copies and Robert will sign it with pleasure.

So does happiness help one age with grace and live longer? Research says YES and here's Laura at 94 and still going happily along and feeling strong..and she believes in happiness and even reads about it..So the answer is YES!! We'll all be getting alot older and as Robert said after she left, "I'm only 83 and Laura is a good example for me to follow."

As this little story proves once again..There are no accidents just great occasions for happiness.
