Ending War

~ Idea 99 ~ 17 October 1994

Each human being should make this commitment to peace:

Decide to be peaceful
Render others peaceful
Be a model of peace
Radiate your peace
Love passionately the peace
of our beautiful planet
Do not listen to the warmongers,
hateseeders and powerseekers
Dream always of a peaceful,
warless, disarmed world
Think always of a peaceful world
Work always for a peaceful world
Switch on and keep on, in yourself,
the peaceful buttons,
those marked love,
serenity, happiness, truth,
kindness, friendliness
understanding and tolerance
Pray and thank God every day for peace
Pray for the United Nations
and all peacemakers
Pray for the leaders of nations
who hold the peace of the world
in their hands
Pray God to let our planet at long last
become the Planet of Peace
And sing in unison with all humanity:
"Let there be peace on Earth
And let it begin with me."
Robert Muller

Robert's Golden Sayings
One says: “Your insult does not touch me.” How right these words are! The body feels a pain because it is hit or touched, because I offer a resistance. The mind can retract, offer no resistance and as a result not be touched or hurt. This is an art of living to be developed and taught. It will render ineffective and suppress much mental and verbal violence. Socrates was a great expert and teacher of it.

Idea Dreams 6001-6500

~ Idea 6079 ~
UNESCO should convene a World Conference on so-called ‘alternative educations’ like the Montessori, the Gandhi, the Rudolf Steiner, the Robert Muller and the United Nations Schools. They should be studied as examples of a new, up to date, modern world education.

People should spend their lives doing good and avoiding evil. Think for a moment of all the good you can do over a lifetime. It is incredible. We are indeed instruments of God on Earth. We are the greatest living tools of cosmic good. We are all servants of the UN, servants of the Earth, and servants of Humanity.

Dear Sir,

Montessori of Macon has had a small middle school since 1997. We are now ready to consolidate all of our efforts using the World Core Curriculum framework that was highlighted in The Namta Journal Vol.18, No.3 Summer 1993.

We feel that the cohesiveness of this framework and Montessori's vision for the adolescent supports our school mission "to Educate the Whole Child for a Whole World".

I would appreciate any contacts that would support our endeavors, especially teachers that are involved in the implementation of this curriculum in the adolescent level. They should contact Tanya Melville Education Director, Montessori of Macon, (478) 757-8927 or information@montessoriofmacon.org.

I am grateful for any assistance that can make peace a reality for our world.

Yours Tanya Melville

Butterfly Graphic"The child is not like an oak tree born as one growing stronger and taller, but like a butterfly in a constant state of metamorphosis."

-Dr. Maria Montessori

Montessori of Macon's five-year strategic plan, developed by the Board of Directors during the 2003 - 2004 school year, addressed the need to accommodate the school's projected increase in enrollment. At present, Montessori of Macon has 93 students. The projected growth of the school will bring this number to 200 - 250 students, which will double current current classroom space requirements.

In January of 2005, the Montessori of Macon community met, and after careful consideration of various options, voted to build a new facility. The structure will be approximately 12,000 square feet, and will be located in a setting which will be conducive to our outdoor curriculum. In accordance with our core value of stewardship of the earth, our mission will be to utilize "green" construction materials and techniques wherever possible. A community and sense of place will be created which will inspire and promote our mission to educate the whole child for a whole world.

This "Future Vision" section of our website will be devoted to news of our plans, and of the Capital Campaign which will be necessary to realize our vision.

Parents and staff are currently volunteering for several committees which are working enthusiastically on various aspects of planning for our new school.

As a part of our Future Vision, we are already focusing our attention on ecologically sound practices within our school and in our homes, including:

  • Limiting paper waste by disseminating information via email and online
  • Recycling of paper, aluminum, and plastic
  • Packing school lunches in re-usable containers

Peace

~ Idea 4200 ~

Mrs. Eirween Harbottle, the widow of General Harbottle who created the International Association of Retired Generals and Admirals for Peace wrote me a letter informing me of several of her activities but complained of her perennial problem: the lack of funds. In my answer to her I had this remark:

"It is natural that people and movements like ours have little money. If we had we would be on the other side of the fence. It has been like that throughout history.

When I see that my self-published nine volumes of 4000 ideas sell poorly, I smile with happiness, because it gives God and the saints an opportunity to do a miracle.

The miracle is that they are a goldmine of ideas and excerpts on innumerable world subjects. They are tantamount to hundreds of books.

Please start also a thousand ideas and dreams for world peace, including those you remember from your dear husband Michael. His soul will come during the night and relight them in your mind and heart. Ask him to do it.

Saints can be active only when solicited, prayed for."

Peace

~ Idea 738 ~17 July 1996
After a speech to a group of Elderhostels visitors to the University for Peace, a member of the group told me that conscientious objection to military service was gaining ground in the US and in the world. I answered that I would go beyond that concept:

I was claiming the fundamental human right of every human being not to be trained to kill and to kill other human beings, not in the name of a nation or a religion nor of any other group.

These groups have no right to call for inhumanity from their members.

They have the duty to make peace with peaceful non-violent methods. That duty should be included in a Universal Declaration of Human Duties.

Robert's Golden Sayings
Life is to do something so beautifully that you can be proud of it. This should apply to all humanity.
*
Humanity cannot be proud as long as there are wars and conflicts, atomic arms, hunger and unbearable injustices on this planet. The UN reflects the pride and shames of humanity.
*
Have the courage of your dreams. Dreams always come true if you remain true to them. They seem to grow like children.
*

My Testament to the UN
-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 6

New views, even if they are right and timely, are called heresies and are bitterly fought by the opponents of change. Thus the UN is called a heresy by isolationists and is bitterly fought by them.

*

My Testament to the UN
-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 6

If the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation or any other foundation in the world convened people from around the globe in one place to study and confer on all the world's problems, issues, challenges, discoveries, plans and dreams, they would receive worldwide acclaim. Well, this is exactly what the United Nations and its specialized agencies do, but rarely is the UN congratulated or offered financial support. On the contrary, we are criticized, placed on the defensive, harassed by investigating committees, accused of bureaucracy and of spending too much.

Ending War

~ Idea 1244 ~ 6 December 1997

The Nobel Prize for Peace should be given in the year 2000 to the United Nations for its remarkable success in practically eliminating international wars.

The Prize should be used by the UN to create means and actions for the solution and reduction of internal ethnic and religious conflicts which still prevail in the world or to endow yearly UN peace prizes.

Robert's Golden Sayings
There is great urgency to foster racial equality by every possible means, were it only to prevent that tomorrow when other races will be in command they will not turn against their former oppressors and say: “Now it is your turn to suffer. We will make you pay.”
*

My Testament to the UN
-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 6

Dag Hammarskjold and a UN journalist were walking back to their offices after a press conference by the Secretary-General. The journalist commented sadly:

"Isn't it a shame that the UN is not taken more seriously. Several newspapers are closing their offices at the UN. The questions put to you were so critical, so unfair. Several non-governmental organizations are also giving up."

Dag Hammarskjold stopped walking, looked sternly at the journalist and said:

"I do not see any problem. You and I remain, and as long as there is one person on Earth who believes and acts for the right course, there is no reason to despair."
